Lighted Signs - LED versus neon

When it comes to lit up letters LED versus Neon is a common question these days. LED saves electricity. Neon is the tried and true standby of the industry. Which is the most cost effective and useful solution for your business?

Lets start with a little history:

In the past LED was expensive, the way to sell LED to a customer was to show the cost savings in electricity over time and use that as part of the cost benefit. Today we can create and install the same sign for the same price in LED or neon.

In the past the longevity of LED’s was questionable to say the least, technological innovation has created bright and long lasting LED (as long as you are using quality LED).

Now lets talk about what is for you. If you are considering a sign with lighted lettering (without exposed lights). I highly recommend LED. Here are some reasons I recommend LED:

1. LED doesn’t contain harmful mercury that neon does
2. The cost between LED and neon is minimal
3. When a LED goes out you do not lose lighting in a whole letter or section of your sign
4. LED saves you electricity, how much depends on who you talk to, but it is significant either way.
5. LED is not as fragile as neon
6. LED can be as bright as neon, this was not the case five years ago

These are just a few reasons I highly recommend LED in most cases. There are still situations where neon is the right choice, but for enclosed channel letters LED can’t be beat!

Our company only installs UL (Underwriter’s Laboratory) endoresed LED’s. In addition we stand behind our LED for five years from installation.
