A new multipurpose stadium is being built at South Elgin High School. The stadium will allow the football and track teams to host events at their own school. The entire stadium is being funded privately and the major contributors needed to be recognized.

To recognize the two largest sponsors, The Wisdom Family Foundation and Hoffer Plastics, it was decided that a monument sign should be constructed. The first game will be on September 16th. We decided on August 29th to begin working on this project (this is not your normal timeline!)

The first step was to pick the type of sign. Things that were considered:
- Budget
- Preferences in looks – Wood, metal, post and panel sign, monument sign, etc.
- Environment – where will the sign be, are there factors other than weather to consider? Plowed snow, road salt, traffic, etc.
- City requirements – since this is a project for the school a permit is not required.

The next step was to determine the size of the monument sign. Since the stadium is a large area and visibility is important we settled on a large sign, 4 feet high by 8 feet wide. This also kept the sign within the budget.

Below we have shown a rendering of the sign, without the graphics. Next week we will give you an update on the design of the faces. And then finally we will show you some pictures of the installation.
